Elton John Can’t Tolerate Religious Intolerance

Elton John calls for the banning of religion

After his recent remarks about religion, faiths across the globe have come together in an unprecedented show of unity to call for an outright ban on Elton John and his music. Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus and tapioca salesmen have condemned the singer, claiming he is fanning the flames of religious intolerance. Said one expert in religious schisms: ‘he’s caused more trouble with a toupee and a over-sized earring than any bald heretic the world has ever known.’

No stranger to controversy, Elton John famously appeared as a drunk Catholic priest in the cult TV show, Father Ted, where his catchphrase led to one of his biggest UK hits, ‘Candle Up Your Arse!’ His latest outburst, however, risks causing even greater controversy by asking the world to give up religion and take up the cause of middle of the road balladeering. ‘There’s no wisdom greater than that of Mr. Bernie Taupin, ladies and gentlemen,’ he recently told to a sell-out audience in London. He then went on to burn religious symbols whilst singing a medley of tunes with Ms. Dionne Warwick. Said Catholic priest Hector Gonzalez Michelmore, a self-confessed Elton John fan who witnessed the show: ‘I don’t know what to say.’

    Pope Elton John…

The Spine thinks that this will upset all sorts of religious types, but I have to take issue with his inclusion of Hindus. I have yet to meet a fundamentalist Hindu, so this may be off the mark, but all the Hindus I know are pretty reasonable about t…..

To me, it seems that Elton is acting out because he has likely been the target of many fundamentalist Christians that condemn instead of practice tolerance. To me, Christians don’t have to accept homosexuality, but they do have to be kind and decent to those that are gay. It is better to lead by example then to ridicule others and to turn them off so they won’t listen to what you have to say.

Elton John shows us that in fact, its the intolerance within religion we must fight, he himself being a victim to such intollerance, one thing Christ WAS was tollerant and very little religions excercise this. As a born again Christian myself, I feel horrified at the ammount of people who will reject God because of how he is represented in this world, so many homosexuals are lambasted against when they should in fact be shown that Jesus is love. Christians believe Christ died for sinners, therefore he died for homosexuals if what they practise is a sin, he then taught that we ourselves should walk in that love, that it was the most important commandment and so those who have been intollerant towards Elton have in fact broken the most important commandment. His actions show that not practising that love breeds contempt and hatred toward the Very God they want him to surrender to and its a shame, because they are robbing him of salvation!
