Bush Aides Deny President Distracted During Press Conference

Aides to President George W. Bush have rushed to deny that the President was distracted during yesterday’s news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Part way through a question and answer session with journalists on the issue of Iraq, a clearly puzzled President started to prod the set and gradually became mesmerized by his own presidential seal.

‘The President was trying to make a point about the nature of international politics,’ said a spokesman. ‘He strongly believes that there’s two sides to every coin and that you have to look at things through the other guy’s eyes.’

Despite the denials, the President’s short attention span has again been called into question, with many of his critics pointing to the President’s recent confusion by a fish as a sign of his flagging interest in politics. ‘That’s hogwash,’ said Mr. Bush later before he flew to Camp David. ‘As we say in Texas, you don’t count your chickens before… ooh look at that helicopter!’
