Vatican Condemns Spectacle of Saddam Execution

The Vatican has denounced the way in which Saddam Hussein’s execution has been made into a public spectacle. The Vatican’s daily newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, has condemned the old and new media for “making a spectacle” of the ex-dictator’s hanging.
The church’s denunciation is a sentiment that has been repeated across the country as worshippers gathered this week to mark the end of Christmas. ‘What kind of sick twisted individuals want to look at images of suffering?’ asked church warden Mrs. Iris Mulch of East Slough. ‘Christmas isn’t a time for people to be dwelling on this sort of thing,’ she added. ‘Can’t they at least wait until Easter?’

Growing up as a Catholic, there were a lot of my elderly relatives which had the picture of the big JC with the sacred heart exposed as an icon of worship. (This is a bleeding heart with drips and thorns) This freaked the HELL out of me and lead to my sucessful career as a nervous atheist today.

Hylke: Well, perhaps not Easter but certainly Good Friday when I believe the church reminds us all of one particular execution.
Eliza:so good to see you around! Not seen you here for a while. Hope everything is okay.
I thought it odd hearing the Catholic church condemn images of an execution. My grandmother was a very devote Catholic and some of the imagery around her house really disturbed me as a child. Oddly, as I grow older, I find it more fascinating. I just hope I haven’t caught any Dan Brown/Da Vinci Code type bugs.
